CASE STUDY

Heights grew basket size
without interrupting a single shopper

On the Biotic product page, Heights ran Atomato as a persistent discovery layer against a control. Every headline metric moved, and the lift came from wider baskets rather than from pushing one product harder.

RESULTS

What those lifts added up to

Around 4,000 shoppers saw either the variant or the control. Every rate above moved, and this is what the combined effect was worth.

+35.1%
Revenue per visitor

The clearest measure of total impact. It folds traffic, conversion and basket size into a single number.

+£1,514
Incremental revenue

Generated during the test window, against the control.

Conversion also rose around 20 percent against the control. At roughly 4,000 shoppers split across two groups that result is directional rather than statistically significant, so we have kept it out of the headline figures.

THE PROBLEM

One product,
one decision, one order

Heights had a strong flagship in Biotic. Most shoppers landed on that product page, weighed a single item, then either checked out or left.

That put a ceiling on how much of the catalog anyone ever saw, on how many products went into a basket, and on revenue per visitor.

Popups and hard upsells were not the answer. In a category where people need time to understand what they are buying, interrupting the read costs more trust than it earns.

WHAT THEY SHIPPED

A discovery layer
that waits to be opened

A bell in the header, messages written the way customers already think about complementary products, and a path through to items like Vitals.

Nothing covered the page and nothing fired on a timer. The layer stayed available for the whole session, so shoppers opened it when they were ready.

That changed what the upsell was for. It stopped being a conversion tactic and became a way to find the rest of the range.

WHAT CHANGED

The basket got wider, not pricier

The lift did not come from pushing one product harder. It came from shoppers building more complete baskets.

Basket composition

  • Products per order rose 8.7 percent.
  • Multi-product orders went from 35.6 percent to 41.2 percent.
  • Single-product orders fell 5.6 percentage points.

Catalog discovery

  • Vitals attachment rose 7.2 percentage points.
  • Magnesium rose 8.9 percentage points.
  • The Sleep and Energy Bundle more than doubled.
“It didn’t push customers. It helped them discover,
and that’s what drove the results.”
Holly Passmore Product Manager at Heights

Shoppers rarely added a product straight from the notification. The layer prompted them to look further, and the decision landed later in the session. For higher-consideration products, that is the pattern to expect.
