ABOUT
Mailchimp and Atomato
Mailchimp is an email marketing platform that keeps your contacts in audiences. Connect it to Atomato and the email addresses, first names, answers and phone numbers shoppers give in your NotiEmail and NotiSMS signups go to the audience you pick in each campaign, tagged with that campaign.
Atomato reads your audience names so you can pick one, and a contact's status and tags so the same signup isn't added twice. Your Mailchimp emails keep running as they do now.
What Atomato does with Mailchimp
- An audience for each campaignChoose a Mailchimp audience in each Email Opt-in step. Up to 50 of your audiences load, and typing narrows the list.
- Subscribed on arrivalNew contacts join your audience with the status subscribed.
- A tag for every campaignEach signup gets a tag such as atomato_128:notiemail, so you can find a campaign's contacts and email them.
- Answers and names as tagsA Question step answer adds a tag such as atomato_128_question:Skincare, and a first name adds atomato_128_name:Ana.
- First names in FNAMETurn on Collect first name and Mailchimp gets it in the FNAME merge field. The contact's other merge fields are kept.
- SMS signups tooWhen the email step also uses Mailchimp and the shopper gives an email, the phone number from the SMS Opt-in step goes to the contact with the SMS status subscribed.
From a signup to your Mailchimp emails
- Shopper signs up in the feedAn email address, plus a first name, answer or phone number if you ask.
- Atomato sends the signupWhen the shopper completes or skips the last step before Success.
- Added to your audienceSubscribed and tagged, such as atomato_128:notiemail.
- Your Mailchimp emailsFind these contacts by their atomato_ tags and email them as you do now.

Atomato sends the status subscribed, not pending, and doesn't send your Disclosure Language, so check that any confirmation or welcome email you rely on runs for these contacts. Mailchimp needs an email address, so a signup with only a phone number isn't sent. Last names, orders and browsing aren't sent. See what Atomato sends to your email platform.

FAQ
Questions about Mailchimp and Atomato
Short answers on plans, statuses, tags and SMS, each linked to the help article with the full detail.
Which plan do I need?
Integrations and NotiEmail are on Enterprise+, and legacy Grow and Pro plans keep them. On Free and Scale, the Integrations page shows Integrations are on Enterprise+ with a Compare plans button. See pricing.
What subscription status does Mailchimp receive?
Subscribed. A new contact joins your audience as subscribed. A contact already in that audience with another status, such as unsubscribed, is set back to subscribed. A contact who is already subscribed keeps that status and gets the campaign's tags, and if they already have this campaign's tags, nothing changes. Shoppers see the Disclosure Language you write under the signup buttons, and Mailchimp doesn't receive it. Check in Mailchimp whether any confirmation step or welcome email you rely on runs for these contacts, and ask your legal adviser what your wording needs to cover. See what shoppers see and what Atomato sends when they sign up.
Which tags does Atomato add in Mailchimp?
Each signup gets a tag made of atomato_, the campaign's ID, a colon and the channel, such as atomato_128:notiemail, or atomato_128:notiemail,notisms when the shopper gives an email address and a phone number. A Question step answer adds a tag such as atomato_128_question:Skincare, and a first name adds one such as atomato_128_name:Ana. Each tag is cut to 100 characters. To find a campaign's ID, open its Email Opt-in step after you save it. See what Atomato sends to your email platform.
Can Mailchimp receive NotiSMS phone numbers?
Yes, when the campaign's Email Opt-in step also sends to Mailchimp. Mailchimp can't store a contact with only a phone number, so it shows under SMS integrations only in that case. The number goes to the contact's SMS phone number with the SMS status subscribed, and to the PHONE merge field. When your email and SMS audiences differ, the contact joins both. Keep the email step's Close button action set to Close, so shoppers can't skip the email. To send numbers without a Mailchimp email step, connect Klaviyo from Integrations in Atomato. See send SMS signups to Klaviyo or Mailchimp.
Does Atomato use my Mailchimp data to target messages?
No. Atomato reads your audiences so you can pick one, then adds and tags contacts in them. It doesn't use Mailchimp data to decide who sees a campaign. To target subscribers, Atomato reads subscription data from SKIO instead. See the SKIO integration.
Who can see my Mailchimp API key?
Atomato saves the key and shows it in full on the Mailchimp Integration page to anyone who can open Atomato. To limit who sees it, limit which staff and collaborator accounts can open Atomato. Make a key only for Atomato, so you can revoke it on its own. The connect window lists the scopes Atomato needs: Audiences · Read, Audiences · Write and Contacts · Write. See where Atomato uses your integration API keys and who can see them.
What happens if I disconnect Mailchimp?
Mailchimp disconnects as soon as you click Disconnect, with no confirmation. NotiEmail campaigns that use it keep running, but new signups can't reach Mailchimp and the shopper's form stays on the same step. Pause those campaigns or switch them to another platform first. If you reconnect the same account, they send signups again. See update or disconnect an integration.
Which other tools does Atomato connect to?
Email signups can also go to Klaviyo, Omnisend or Drip, one platform per Email Opt-in step. SKIO works the other way: Atomato reads its subscription data to target NotiFeed and NotiPop messages. Attentive, Postscript, Recharge and others show Coming soon in the app. See all integrations.
