What shoppers see and what Atomato sends when they sign up

When a shopper signs up through a NotiEmail or NotiSMS form, they see your Disclosure Language in small print under the form's buttons. Atomato sends their email address or phone number to your platform, with the status subscribed for Mailchimp and Omnisend and no subscription status for Klaviyo and Drip.

NotiEmail and NotiSMS need Enterprise+ or a legacy paid plan. This article isn't legal advice: check with your own legal adviser what your wording and platform settings need to cover.

The disclosure line shoppers see

Each Email Opt-in and SMS Opt-in step has its own Disclosure Language field, with room for 450 characters. It sits under Email opt messaging or SMS opt messaging, which opens once you pick a platform for the step. To add a link, such as to your privacy policy, click the field's link button, fill in Link text and URL, then click Apply.

On your store, the text shows under the step's buttons. These steps have no checkbox: the shopper enters an email address or phone number and clicks the button. Atomato sends the signup when the shopper completes, or skips, the last step before Success.

The sample text in new campaigns

Both fields start with the same sample wording, in new campaigns and in every NotiEmail and NotiSMS template:

• It mentions checking a box, which the form doesn't have.
• It has [brand name] and [insert privacy policy link] to fill in.
• In the SMS Opt-in step, it still talks about an email address and marketing emails.

Atomato doesn't stop you saving a campaign with the sample text. Rewrite it to describe your form and its channel, rather than only filling in the placeholders. For the rest of the form, see Collect email and SMS signups in the feed.

The subscription status each platform receives

Atomato sends each contact to the platform you picked in the step, and for Klaviyo and Mailchimp to the list or audience you chose. For Omnisend and Drip, the step shows No list selection needed.

Klaviyo

• Email: Atomato creates or updates the profile with the email address, the first name if you collect it and atomato_ properties, then adds it to your email list. It sends no email consent or subscription status.
• SMS: Atomato puts the phone number on the profile, plus the email address when the Email Opt-in step also uses Klaviyo, and adds it to your SMS audience. It sends no SMS consent or subscription status.

Mailchimp

• Email: a new contact is sent with the status subscribed. So is a contact already in your audience with another status, such as unsubscribed. A contact who is already subscribed gets only the campaign's tags.
• SMS: Atomato sends the number as the SMS phone number with the SMS status subscribed, plus the email status subscribed, including for a contact who had unsubscribed. It needs the shopper's email address from an Email Opt-in step that uses Mailchimp.

Omnisend

For every email signup, including an existing contact who had unsubscribed, Atomato sends the email address with the email channel status subscribed and the signup time. It also sets Omnisend's sendWelcomeMessage option to false.

Drip

Atomato creates or updates the subscriber with the email address and custom fields, such as the first name. It sends no status.

Settings to review in your email or SMS platform

Atomato sets no consent status in Klaviyo, sends no status to Drip, and sends contacts to Mailchimp and Omnisend as subscribed. Whether that's enough for the rules where you sell is up to you and your legal adviser. Before you publish a signup campaign, check in your platform:

• How contacts added without a consent status are treated, especially phone numbers in Klaviyo.
• Whether any confirmation step or welcome message you rely on runs for contacts Atomato adds.
• Where you keep a record of each signup and the wording shown, if your rules call for one. Atomato's analytics only count signups.
