Send SMS signups to Klaviyo or Mailchimp

Route NotiSMS phone signups to Klaviyo or Mailchimp and pick the SMS audience they join.

NotiSMS sends the phone numbers shoppers enter in your feed to Klaviyo or Mailchimp. You pick the tool and the SMS audience in the campaign's SMS Opt-in step, and each new number is added to that audience.

NotiSMS needs the Enterprise+ plan, like NotiEmail.

Which SMS tools you can use

  • Klaviyo works in any campaign with an SMS Opt-in step.
  • Mailchimp shows only when the campaign's Email Opt-in step also sends to Mailchimp.
  • Attentive is greyed out. It is Coming soon and can't be picked yet.

Omnisend and Drip aren't offered for SMS. If your email step sends to one of them, you can still send phone numbers to Klaviyo.

Add the SMS step and choose your tool

NotiSMS campaigns are built in the NotiEmail editor. The NotiSMS templates, such as SMS Discount Signup, start with an SMS Opt-in step and no email step. To add the step to another NotiEmail campaign, click Step under Notification steps and choose Add SMS Opt-in. The rest of the form is covered in Collect email and SMS signups in the feed.

  1. Open the SMS Opt-in step.
  2. In the SMS integrations card, under Choose an integration, click Klaviyo or Mailchimp. Mailchimp uses the connection from your email step.
  3. If Klaviyo isn't connected yet, the Connect Klaviyo window opens. Paste your key into Klaviyo private API key and click Connect.

The key needs every scope under Required scopes for this key: List · Read, List · Write and Profile · Write. A key missing either write scope still connects, but signups then fail. Connect Klaviyo to Atomato shows how to create one.

Pick the SMS audience

Click the SMS audience * field and choose where new numbers go. Mailchimp shows up to 50 audiences and filters them as you type. Klaviyo shows up to 10 lists. If yours isn't there, type its full name exactly as it appears in Klaviyo.

The card then shows Selected audience: and the audience name. To change it, hover over Edit and choose Edit audience or Change integration.

The campaign won't save until a tool and an audience are both set. Without an audience, the field shows Choose an SMS audience before publishing this campaign.

Using Klaviyo for email and SMS

Klaviyo saves the number on the shopper's profile, with their first name if you turn on Collect first name. When both steps send to Klaviyo and a shopper gives an email and a number, Atomato keeps them on one profile. If your email list and SMS audience are different lists, that profile joins both.

If your email step sends to another tool, Klaviyo gets the number without the email address. For the other details on each profile, see what Atomato sends to your email platform.

Mailchimp SMS needs the email step

Mailchimp can't store a contact with only a phone number, so Atomato also needs the shopper's email from an Email Opt-in step that sends to Mailchimp. If you remove that step, or switch it to another tool, the Mailchimp SMS choice is cleared and you need to choose again.

Keep Close button action on the Email Opt-in step set to Close, the default. With Skip, a shopper can skip the email and give only a number. Mailchimp can't take it, so the number isn't sent and the form doesn't move on.

Mailchimp gets the number as the contact's SMS phone number and in the PHONE merge field. When your email and SMS audiences differ, the contact is added to both. To set up the email side, see Connect Mailchimp to Atomato.

Write your SMS disclosure

The Disclosure Language field under SMS opt messaging is the small print shoppers see under the phone field and buttons. It starts with sample text written for email: it mentions an email address and marketing emails, and has [brand name] and [insert privacy policy link] to fill in. Rewrite it for text messages. If you clear the field, its placeholder offers a starting point: By providing your phone number, you agree to receive marketing SMS from us.
