Connect Mailchimp to Atomato

To send NotiEmail signups to Mailchimp, connect Mailchimp with an API key, then choose an audience in your NotiEmail campaign. Email signups from that campaign join the audience, tagged with the campaign.

Atomato only sends signups to Mailchimp. It doesn't use Mailchimp data to decide who sees a campaign.

Before you start

• Integrations and NotiEmail are on the Enterprise+ plan. On Free and Scale, the Integrations page shows Integrations are on Enterprise+ and a Compare plans button.
• Create an API key in Mailchimp: open your profile, then Extras > API keys. Copy the whole key, including the code after the last hyphen, such as -us followed by a number. Atomato needs that code to reach your account.

Connect Mailchimp from Integrations

1. In Atomato, click Integrations in the sidebar.
2. Under Email & SMS Marketing, click Connect on the Mailchimp card.
3. Paste your key into Mailchimp API key. Ignore the pk_ sample text in the field: paste the key exactly as Mailchimp gave it.
4. Click Connect Mailchimp.

Atomato checks the key with Mailchimp first. Once it's accepted, the field shows Connected, the buttons change to Update API key and Disconnect, and the Mailchimp card on Integrations shows Manage.

Disconnect works straight away, with no confirmation. NotiEmail campaigns that use Mailchimp keep running, but their signups no longer reach it, so pause those campaigns or switch them to another platform first.

Or connect from a NotiEmail campaign

Start a campaign from Create Campaign in the sidebar, or with + Create NotiEmail on the Mailchimp Integration page.

1. On the Setup tab, under Notification steps, click Email Opt-in.
2. Under Choose an integration, click Mailchimp. If it's already connected, it's selected straight away.
3. In the Connect Mailchimp window, paste the key into Mailchimp private API key and click Connect.

This connects Mailchimp for your whole store. The window's Required scopes for this key list (Audiences · Read, Audiences · Write, Contacts · Write) sums up what Atomato does: it reads your audiences, then adds and tags contacts in them.

If Mailchimp rejects the key, you see an error, usually starting with Invalid Mailchimp API key. It shows under the window's key field, or briefly at the bottom of the screen on the Integration page. See Fix integration connection errors.

Choose the Mailchimp audience

Mailchimp calls its lists audiences. Once Mailchimp is connected, the Email Opt-in step shows an Email list * field.

1. Click in Email list *. Up to 50 of your audiences load, and typing part of a name narrows that list.
2. Pick the audience new subscribers should join, then click Save campaign.

The step then shows the audience next to Selected list. To change it, hover over Edit and choose Edit list, or Change integration for another platform.

Without an audience, the campaign won't save and shows Choose an email list before publishing this campaign. If you delete the audience in Mailchimp later, the step warns that the list is no longer available. Until you pick another, that campaign's signups can't reach Mailchimp, and the shopper's form stays on the same step. For the rest of the form, see Collect email and SMS signups in the feed.

What shows up in Mailchimp

• A new email address joins the audience as subscribed, with the first name in FNAME if the form collects one.
• Someone already subscribed keeps their status and gets this campaign's tags. If they already signed up through this campaign, nothing changes.
• Each signup gets a tag starting with atomato_{id}:, such as atomato_{id}:notiemail, where {id} identifies the campaign. The campaign editor shows only atomato_{id}.
• A Question step answer adds atomato_{id}_question:{answer}, and a first name adds atomato_{id}_name:{first name}. Tags are cut to 100 characters.

Collect SMS numbers in Mailchimp

In an SMS Opt-in step, Mailchimp appears under SMS integrations only when the Email Opt-in step uses Mailchimp too. Switching the Email Opt-in step to another platform clears it from the SMS step. See Send SMS signups to Klaviyo or Mailchimp.
