What happens to your data when you uninstall Atomato?

What Atomato removes when you uninstall, what it deletes when Shopify asks, and what stays in your store and other tools.

Atomato deletes the records it keeps about your store in two steps: a small clean-up when you uninstall, then a larger deletion from its database when Shopify asks Atomato to erase your store's data. Some things Atomato created in your Shopify store or your other tools stay until you remove them.

For the uninstall steps, see Cancel your plan or uninstall Atomato. If you only want to stop paying, you can move to Free instead. That doesn't start either step below, though campaigns over Free's limits are set back to draft.

When you uninstall

When Shopify tells Atomato that the app was uninstalled, Atomato:

  • Deletes your store's sign-in records, including the name and email address of each staff member who opened Atomato.
  • Clears your plan and resets the setup guide.
  • Emails each recipient marked On under Settings > Email notifications to ask for your feedback. This email is sent whatever you ticked under Form notifications. See Choose who gets Atomato email notifications.
Settings > Email notifications. Each address has a menu to turn it off, send a test or delete it.

The rest stays in Atomato's database until the next step, including your campaigns, analytics, styling, email notification settings and integration API keys.

When Shopify asks Atomato to erase your store's data

Shopify sends this request some time after you uninstall, and Shopify decides when. When the request arrives, Atomato deletes these records from its database:

  • Campaign records of every type, including Theme Launcher schedules, and their scheduled jobs.
  • Analytics: daily engagement numbers, add to cart totals by product, NotiEmail signup counts, campaign summaries, and revenue records, which can include order and customer IDs.
  • Customer data received from SKIO.
  • Integrations, with their saved API keys.
  • Your saved NotiFeed styling, NotiSell styling and NotiPop styling.
  • Your plan details, email notification settings and store settings.
  • Any sign-in records that are left.

One limit: this step doesn't delete recent shopper activity that Atomato hasn't yet added to your analytics. Atomato processes that activity every six hours, and analytics records it creates after the request aren't covered by this step.

Data in your Shopify store and your other tools stays.

What stays in your Shopify store

Neither step removes these. Delete any you don't need in your Shopify admin.

  • The five customer segments Atomato creates: Atomato - Customers who have the tag 'VIP', Atomato - Re-Engagement, Atomato - last order a month ago, Atomato - Customers who have spent more than $100 and Atomato - New customers. While Atomato is installed, it adds back any that are missing when it signs a staff member in, so remove them after you uninstall.
  • Order tags. Orders that included a product added to the cart from NotiSell are tagged notisell and notisell- followed by the ID of the NotiSell message the product came from.
  • Images you uploaded through Atomato, saved in Content > Files, with alt text that starts with Uploaded image.
  • Signup discount codes. When a NotiEmail campaign uses Unique coupons, each subscriber's code is its own discount. Its title is Atomato - followed by the code in square brackets, and it's tagged atomato, notiemail and notiemail: followed by the campaign ID. With a Single coupon, the discount is one you created yourself, so it's yours to keep or delete.
The Success step with a signup reward. Unique coupons need an Email step.

What stays in your other tools

Contacts that Atomato sent to Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend or Drip stay in those platforms. Manage or delete them there.

The API keys you created for Atomato also stay active in Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, Drip or SKIO. Atomato's saved copy is deleted when Shopify's erasure request arrives, or cleared straight away if you click Disconnect on the integration's page. Integration pages only open on a plan that includes integrations, such as Enterprise+, so disconnect before you move to Free or Scale. See Update or disconnect an integration.

A connected integration. Update API key saves a new key; Disconnect removes it.

Whether or not you disconnect first, revoke those keys in each platform after you uninstall, so they stop working. In SKIO, also remove the webhook you added for Atomato and any webhook secret token you made for it.

For requests from individual customers, see what happens when a customer asks for their data or to be erased. To decide what your store needs to delete or keep, check with your own legal adviser.
