How to recommend products shoppers can add from a Shopify feed

A crescent moon with meteor trails

You can recommend products in a Shopify notification feed so shoppers add them without opening a product page first. In Atomato that module is NotiSell. It sits inside NotiFeed. Shoppers pick a variant and add to cart from the feed. By default, the cart page then opens.

This guide covers product picks, optional discounts, order tags, audience limits, and what not to claim.

What NotiSell puts in the feed

NotiSell shows product recommendations inside the feed. It is not a separate storefront page. Shoppers open the bell, see the card, and can act there.

Example: a shopper browsing a jacket opens the feed and sees two complementary items. They pick a size on the card and add one to the cart without leaving the feed.

What to do: treat NotiSell as the add path for a short product list in the feed. Keep the list tied to a clear job, such as a complementary pair for a hero product.

The add to cart button is optional. Without it, each product links to its product page. With it, the shopper can add from the feed. After an add, the cart page opens by default.

How you choose the products

You pick up to six products by hand. Or Atomato can suggest products from your store's own sales and stock data while you set up the campaign. Suggestions can include best sellers or trending products.

The chosen list is saved with the campaign. It does not update by itself later. The ranking comes from those sales and stock figures, not from an AI model.

Example: while building a campaign you accept three suggested best sellers. Then you swap one for a care product that pairs with your top seller. That list stays until you edit the campaign again.

What to do: save a deliberate list. Recheck stock and fit before a big sale. An optional setting can reorder the list on product pages using Shopify's own product recommendations. That reorder uses Shopify's data, not a separate Atomato AI.

Optional discounts that apply only from NotiSell

You can attach a percentage or fixed discount. It applies only to items the shopper adds from NotiSell. The same product added from a product page or another path is not discounted by that offer.

Example: a NotiSell discount on a refill kit applies when the shopper adds it from the feed card. If they add the same kit from the product page, that NotiSell discount does not apply.

What to do: use the discount when the feed add path is the offer. Skip it when you only want a clear complementary pick with no price change.

NotiSell supports one-time purchases. It also supports subscriptions for products your store already sells with a subscription option.

Order tags when a shopper adds from NotiSell

When an order includes a product the shopper added with the add to cart button inside a NotiSell message, the order gets a notisell tag in Shopify. It also gets a second tag, notisell- followed by a number that identifies the NotiSell message. You can filter those orders in Shopify.

Example: you run a complete-the-set campaign and later filter orders by the notisell tag. You see which orders included a feed add, not every order that contained the same SKU.

What to do: use the tags to review feed adds. Do not treat an untagged order with the same product as a NotiSell add. The same product added another way, including from a product page opened from the card, is not tagged or discounted by NotiSell.

Audience and plan notes

NotiSell needs Scale, Enterprise+, Custom, or a legacy paid plan. Free does not include it.

Audience options for NotiSell are all shoppers, segments, or chosen customers. Segments and chosen customers match signed-in customers only.

Example: a VIP segment campaign reaches customers who are signed in. Guests who never sign in will not match that segment audience.

What to do: pick all shoppers when the complementary list should reach everyone on the storefront. Use a segment only when the offer is for signed-in customers.

Atomato works alongside your popup, email, and SMS tools. It does not replace them. It does not send emails or texts itself.

Before and after: announce only versus a feed add path

The same sale can stop at a click out, or let the shopper add from the feed.

Before, a feed that only announces a sale:

Weekend sale is on. Shop the collection. The card has no products to add. The shopper leaves the feed and opens a product page. They may never return to the complementary item you wanted.

After, a NotiSell card with complementary products:

Complete the set. Two or three complementary products sit on the card with an optional add to cart button. The shopper picks a variant and adds from the feed. The cart page then opens.

What to do: put the products on the card when the job is a bigger basket. Use a plain NotiFeed announcement when the job is news only.

Attribution and what not to claim

Adding a product from NotiSell starts a 6-hour add-to-cart window. Report revenue from that window as attributed revenue. Do not say Atomato drove or caused the sale. Do not claim lift.

Example: a shopper adds from NotiSell, then orders those products later in the same browser under the attribution rules. Atomato can credit attributed revenue to that path. That is not proof the order would not have happened without the card.

What to do: report attributed revenue and engagement from the campaign. Keep claims factual. For page and cart targeting, see how to recommend products based on page and cart activity. For broader basket tactics, see 7 ways to increase Shopify AOV without another discount.

What to do next

Open a NotiSell campaign under the Increase order value goal. Pick up to six products by hand or from setup suggestions. Decide whether the add to cart button is on. Set any discount that should apply only to feed adds. Choose all shoppers or a signed-in segment. Publish, then filter Shopify orders by the notisell tag after orders come in.
