Shopify announcement bar ideas, and what to move into your store's feed
Which messages suit your Shopify announcement bar, which read better in a feed shoppers open from a bell, and how to change both on time for Black Friday.

The announcement bar at the top of your Shopify store is the one line every shopper sees on every page. That makes it valuable, and it also makes it crowded. Free shipping, the sale end date, a new collection and a holiday cutoff all compete for the same strip.
This guide gives you announcement bar ideas that suit one short line, shows which messages read better in a feed shoppers open from a bell, and walks through a before and after for a store in November.
What the announcement bar does well
In most Shopify themes, the announcement bar is a section above the header, edited in the theme editor. It holds a short line of text and, usually, a link. Many themes let you add several announcements that rotate. In most themes it shows the same line to every shopper on every page, until you change it.
That suits a message that is true for every shopper all season. Good announcement bar ideas:
- Your free shipping threshold. "Free US shipping on orders over $75" answers a question shoppers ask on every page. Our guide to the Shopify free shipping threshold covers how to set and price it.
- A sale with one end date. "Black Friday: 25% off everything until Monday 30 November."
- A shipping cutoff in peak weeks. "Order by 17 December for delivery before Christmas."
- A returns promise. "Free returns for 30 days" is short, true everywhere and rarely changes.
Store news rarely fits that pattern. A launch, a restock, a members' offer and a change to holiday hours each need a few more words, a link to a specific product, and only matter to some shoppers. Put them all in a rotating bar and each line is on screen for a few seconds, then gone. A shopper who arrives mid-rotation may never see the one that mattered to them.
Move store news into the feed
A NotiFeed gives that news more room. It adds a bell to your store header, or a floating bell, that opens a feed of your messages. Each message has a title of up to 120 characters, a description of up to 200, an optional image or emoji, and an optional button. Shoppers open the feed when they are ready, and the badge on the bell counts items they haven't seen yet. NotiFeed is on every plan. On Starter (Free), one NotiFeed campaign can be active, with one message.
Messages that read better in the feed than in the bar:
- New drops and back-in-stock products, linked to the product or collection.
- Offers for signed-in or VIP customers.
- Holiday hours, delivery delays and policy changes that need a sentence of detail.
- Gift guides and bestsellers for a particular collection.
A worked example: one bar, one feed
Say a skincare store on the Scale plan has a rotating announcement bar with four lines in November. It moves three of them into one NotiFeed campaign. On Scale and Enterprise+, Multi notifications holds up to six messages in one campaign.
Before:
Free US shipping over $75 / New: Winter Repair Balm / Members get early access Thursday / Gift sets back in stock
After: the bar keeps one line that is true for everyone, and the rest moves into one NotiFeed campaign with three messages, in the order shoppers should read them.
Announcement bar: Free US shipping on orders over $75
Feed message 1: New: Winter Repair Balm. Made for cold, windy days. Button: Shop the balm
Feed message 2: Gift sets are back in stock. Three sizes, ready to wrap. Button: See gift sets
Feed message 3: Members: early access starts Thursday at 9am. Button: Sign in
Drag a message tab by its handle to set the order. The members' message gets its own Customer Segments setting so only signed-in customers see it. The other two show to everyone. On Starter (Free), keep the single message that matters most this week, usually the launch.
Product news in the feed: Ninja Transfers
Ninja Transfers runs NotiFeed only, with nine evergreen campaigns of product and operations news, such as new blanks, larger gang sheets and local pickup. From 19 April to 15 October 2026, its case study reports $99,329 in attributed revenue across 1,701 orders, at a $58 average order value. Its best single campaign brought in $24,162 from "Buy 5 Blanks, Get 5 FREE Transfers". These are account totals, not a controlled test.
Show each feed message where it matters
The bar shows one thing to everyone. Each feed message has its own Customer Segments and Target visitors based on settings, on every plan. A few setups that work alongside your bar:
- A gift guide message with a Page URL rule that Contains /collections/, so it shows while shoppers browse collections.
- A members' offer limited to signed-in customers or a customer segment, so other shoppers don't open the feed to an offer they can't use.
- A larger-order message with a Cart value rule, such as Is greater than or equal to 50.
One habit carries over from the bar and needs to change. Rewriting your bar text is enough to change what shoppers see. In the feed, editing a message keeps it the same message, so a shopper who has already seen it won't see it as new. When your news changes, add a new message and remove the old one. On Starter (Free), pause the campaign and create a new one. Our post on what the unread badge on your bell means explains why.
Change both on the right day for Black Friday
Your bar changes when you edit the theme. Your feed can change on a schedule. On Scale and Enterprise+, the Schedule tab gives a campaign a start date and time and, if you want, an end, so a Black Friday message goes live and comes down on its own.
The schedule belongs to the whole campaign, not to each message, so give the sale its own campaign. Times are in whole hours and use the time zone of the computer you schedule from, not your store's, so convert them if the two differ. See Schedule a campaign for every rule.
To change the bar at the same hour, prepare a copy of your theme with the Black Friday announcement already in it, and use Theme Launcher to publish it at the start time and switch back when the sale ends. Theme Launcher is on every plan. Turn on the Atomato app embed in the sale theme too, because app embeds are saved per theme and without it your bell disappears after the switch. For the rest of the season, see our Black Friday Cyber Monday plan.
On Starter (Free), there are no campaign dates, and only one NotiFeed campaign can be active. When the sale starts, pause your current campaign, then save the sale campaign as Active. Pause it when the sale ends.
What this does not do
- Atomato doesn't edit, hide or replace your theme's announcement bar. The bar stays in your theme editor, and the feed runs next to it.
- It can't target by location, so it can't show a different shipping line by country. Say it in the message ("UK orders: free shipping over £60") instead.
- There are no frequency caps or traffic splits. Test new wording as back-to-back campaigns.
- Nothing shows on Shopify checkout, the thank-you page, POS or headless stores.
