Use Atomato on several themes or a staging theme

Atomato saves your campaigns and settings once for the whole store, but its app embed is switched on theme by theme. Here is how to test Atomato on an unpublished or staging theme, and what still reaches your live store.

What each theme keeps and what your store shares

Each theme keeps its own Atomato switch under App embeds, and any bell snippet you pasted into its header, with the bell icon it had when you copied it. Duplicating a theme in Shopify usually copies both.

Everything else is saved once for the store: your campaigns, integrations and everything under Settings, including bell placement, the bell icon, Custom CSS, and NotiSell and NotiPop styling. So a staging theme shows the same campaigns and styling as your live theme, and a change you save under Settings reaches your live store too.

Turn Atomato on in a staging theme

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes, click Customize next to the theme, open App embeds, switch on Atomato and click Save. See Turn on the Atomato app embed.

During setup, Configure your theme lists your live theme first, marked (active), then your unpublished themes. Pick one under Theme and click Install. If the embed is off there, switch it on and click Save in the theme editor that opens in a new tab.

If you pick the (active) theme, Atomato goes live there and shows to shoppers as soon as a campaign is Active.

After setup, Atomato's home page checks only your live theme. If only the staging theme has the embed, it shows Atomato is not activated, and Activate opens your live theme's editor, so leave that until you want Atomato live.

Check Atomato on the staging theme

Only Active campaigns show, on any theme. Check a staging theme in two places:

• The theme editor. Atomato records no impressions or clicks here, and NotiSell's Enable Smart sorting doesn't reorder products.
• A theme preview, opened with Preview from the theme's menu in Online Store > Themes. Atomato only skips tracking in the theme editor, so your impressions and clicks here can count in Analytics. Keep test clicks few.

Atomato's Store preview (Preview on desktop or Preview on mobile) and Choose bell placement load your live theme's home page, so they can't show a staging theme.

A test campaign also shows on your live store if Atomato is on there. To hide it from shoppers, switch on Customer Segments on each message, choose Specific customers and add only your own customer account, then sign in to your store in the theme preview.

Bell placement and Custom CSS across themes

A duplicate of your live theme has the same header code, so the bell usually lands in the same spot. If the headers differ, one comma-separated selector list can cover both, as Place the bell with a CSS selector or snippet explains. With Add using snippet, each theme needs the snippet in its header, or it gets no header bell.

Before you publish the new theme

• Atomato is on under App embeds in the new theme, and saved.
• In a theme preview, the bell sits where you want it on desktop and mobile, on home, product and collection pages. Atomato only adds it where an Active NotiFeed, NotiSell or NotiEmail campaign shows.
• If you use the snippet, it is in the new theme's header.
• Anything you styled with Custom CSS looks right.

To pick the bell's spot again with Choose bell placement, wait until the new theme is live, since it only loads your live theme. It replaces any selector list you typed and switches to Add using CSS selector.
