How to combine Shopify on-site message targeting conditions

A dark red planet on a crimson sky

A Shopify on-site campaign can require all targeting conditions or any one. Use all when every rule must be true for the offer to make sense. Use any when one matching path is enough. Pick the mode before you stack page URL, UTM tags, device, cart value, cart items, cart products or exit intent.

That choice stops a complementary offer from spraying carts that never held the matching product. It also stops an ad offer from staying hidden when only one of two entry paths is true.

This guide covers when to use each mode in Atomato. It includes worked examples plus the signup and cart limits that come with the conditions.

What all versus any means

Atomato's campaign conditions are page URL, UTM tags, device, cart value, cart items, cart products and exit intent. Those are the only conditions. A campaign can require all of them or any one.

All means every selected condition must match at once. Think of it as AND. Any means one selected condition is enough. Think of it as OR.

Audience options stay separate. Segments and chosen customers only match customers signed in to their account. Conditions answer the page, the cart, the device, the UTM tags or exit intent at that moment.

For each single condition, see how to target by page and cart, target with UTM tags, split desktop and mobile, target by cart value and target by products in the cart.

When to require all conditions

Use all when the offer is wrong unless every rule is true. A complementary belt only belongs on the cart page while the matching jacket is still in the cart. A free-shipping nudge only belongs when the cart is under the threshold and the shopper is on the cart page.

  • Complementary product offer: page URL matches the cart page, and cart products match the jacket. Require all so the line never shows on an empty homepage visit.
  • Threshold plus placement: cart value is under the free-shipping amount, and page URL matches the cart page. Require all so product pages stay quieter.
  • Desktop exit only: device is desktop, and exit intent is true. Require all so mobile never sees a desktop-only leave prompt.

Write one line before you build: every condition, why each must be true, and the offer. If one missing rule would make the copy feel random, stay on all.

When to allow any condition

Use any when either path should open the same honest offer. Ad landers and mobile browsers can share one short spring-sale line without forcing both rules at once.

  • Ad landers or mobile: UTM tags match your paid spring campaign, or device is mobile. Require any so ad traffic sees the line on any screen, and mobile shoppers without that UTM still see it. Desktop organic visits without the UTM stay quiet.
  • Leave path or low cart: exit intent is true, or cart value is under a small threshold. Require any only when the same soft leave line fits both moments.

Keep any narrow. If either path alone would spray the whole store, split into two campaigns with all mode instead.

Worked examples

Start from the goal that matches the job. Encourage shoppers to take action opens NotiPop templates. Promote a sale or launch opens NotiFeed templates. Increase order value opens NotiSell. Grow my email & SMS list opens NotiEmail when your plan includes it.

All example: set page URL to the cart page and cart products to the jacket. Require all. Show a short complementary NotiPop or feed card for the matching belt only while both are true. Shared weekend sale news stays in NotiFeed without those cart rules.

Any example: set UTM tags for your Meta spring campaign and device to mobile. Require any. Show one short spring-sale line to ad landers on any screen, and to mobile shoppers who arrived without that UTM. Desktop organic visits without the UTM do not see it.

Cart and exit intent conditions work for NotiFeed, NotiPop and NotiSell, not for signups. If you are collecting email or SMS inside the feed, leave cart and exit intent off that campaign.

If the cart changes and stops matching, the message is removed. When a shopper removes the jacket that opened the belt offer, the complementary message leaves. If they add the jacket again, the matching campaign can show while the condition is true.

Before and after

Before: one complementary line runs storewide with no mode choice. Empty carts see an add-on they cannot use. Carts without the jacket still see the offer. Ad and mobile paths are mixed into the same campaign, so attributed revenue is hard to read.

After: one campaign in all mode holds page URL plus cart products for the jacket-matched belt. One campaign in any mode holds UTM plus mobile for the short spring line. Shared launch news stays in the feed without those rules. Each campaign keeps its own attributed revenue.

Before (every cart, every page): Complete the look. Add a leather belt to any order. Spring sale live now. Shop bestsellers.

After (all: cart page and jacket in cart): Your jacket is in the cart. Add the matching leather belt before checkout.

After (any: spring UTM or mobile): Spring sale is live. Free shipping on orders over $75.

Limits, results and what this skips

Revenue is credited to clicks, never to views. A click to a product, collection or search page gives the shopper 6 hours to add products to the cart. Products added in that window count if the shopper orders them within 30 days in the same browser. Only those products count, not the whole order.

Call that figure attributed revenue. Do not claim lift. When a shopper clicks messages in two campaigns, the later click wins. Separate all-mode and any-mode campaigns make those totals easier to read.

Targeting is included on Free and on every plan. Campaign start and end scheduling needs a paid plan. Free still limits you to one active NotiFeed and one active NotiPop campaign, with one message each. Nothing shows on checkout or Shopify POS.

Combining conditions does not add location, browsing history or new versus returning visitor targeting. It does not detect restocks or form submissions. It does not replace your popup app, email platform or SMS platform. Atomato works alongside those tools and passes signups to the platform you already use.

It also does not rank complementary products for you. You pick the conditions, the mode and the offer. Keep Add to cart clear on mobile the same way you would when you split desktop and mobile messages.

Next step

Pick one offer that needs every rule true and one offer that can open from either of two paths. Build the first with all and the second with any. Leave shared news in the feed. When the cart stops matching, the cart-based message leaves without a manual pause.
