How to measure the revenue generated by your campaigns

Atomato analytics example: a revenue by campaign bar chart with orders attributed inside the six-hour window, over a photo of blue rings of light

On-site campaigns look busy in the admin until you ask a harder question: which messages made money? Impressions and opens are easy to count. Revenue needs a clear rule for when a click earns credit. Here is a practical way Shopify stores can measure campaign revenue without inventing numbers.

Start with a click, not a view

A shopper who saw a banner but never interacted with it did not give you a conversion signal you can trust. Credit revenue only after a click on the campaign or on a product card inside it. Views alone should not fill the revenue column.

Atomato's Analytics page follows that idea: clicks matter for attribution, and a view by itself does not earn order credit.

Use a short attribution window

Orders that happen days later usually have many other causes. A short window after the click keeps the story honest. Atomato counts adds to cart for six hours after a click that opens a product, collection or search page (three hours for other pages on your store). To see what that window includes and excludes, read what the six-hour attribution window measures.

Atomato's windows are fixed, so every campaign is measured under the same rules. Give each one a few weeks before you compare them.

Separate campaign types

A free-shipping progress reminder, an email capture, and a product recommendation are different jobs. Report them separately so a strong list-growth campaign is not judged only on same-day revenue, and an upsell card is not judged only on signups.

For list growth without another interruptive overlay, see how to grow email and SMS lists without interrupting shoppers. For product cards shoppers can add from the message, see recommending products shoppers can add from the message.

Watch AOV and order count together

Revenue can rise because more shoppers bought or because baskets got larger. Look at both. If clicks rise but AOV falls, you may be discounting too hard. If AOV rises without more orders, the message may be helping only larger carts.

Ideas that lift AOV without another discount code are covered in 7 ways to increase Shopify AOV without another discount.

Compare campaigns in the same window

When you test a new NotiPop or NotiFeed campaign, keep the attribution rules fixed. Change one variable at a time: offer, audience, or placement. Otherwise you cannot tell what moved revenue.

What not to invent

Do not claim revenue for views. Do not stretch the window until every later order looks "influenced." Do not mix ESP email revenue into on-site campaign totals unless you have a clear shared rule. Atomato is not an ESP. It works alongside your popup and email tools as an on-site bell and feed.

Tie reports back to decisions

Measurement only helps if it changes what you run next week. After you review attributed revenue, choose one action: keep, pause, or rewrite the offer. When you measure on-site message revenue, leave your discount calendar alone during a short test window so the campaign's effect is easier to see.

On-site tools vs. ESP reporting

Your ESP will show email and SMS revenue. On-site campaign reporting should stay focused on storefront clicks and the orders that follow within your window. Mixing those totals without a rule creates double counting. Keep ESP reports for send performance and Atomato Analytics for your on-site campaigns.

NotiEmail and NotiSMS capture contacts on-site. Your ESP still owns the later sends. Measure each stage on what it controls.

A simple weekly review

  1. List campaigns with clicks in the last seven days.
  2. Note the revenue credited inside your click window.
  3. Pause campaigns that have clicks but no attributed orders after a fair sample.
  4. Keep campaigns that raise revenue or clearly grow the list for a later email or SMS step.

For a feed measured against a control on one product page, read the Heights case study. The Triquetra case study reports ninety days of account totals rather than a controlled test, with code revenue and click-attributed revenue kept separate rather than added together. To get started, see Atomato on the App Store or visit atomato.co.

When you compare variants, keep the test clean so attributed revenue stays readable. Use one hypothesis and a written stop rule, and do not stack five changes at once. For more, see how to A/B test Shopify on-site messages without flooding traffic.
