Small Business Saturday ideas: five on-site messages for your Shopify store

Five on-site message ideas for Small Business Saturday on 28 November 2026, with sample copy and how to time them in Atomato on any plan.

A starfield with a faint violet cloud

Small Business Saturday falls on 28 November 2026, the day after Black Friday and two days before Cyber Monday. For an independent Shopify brand it is the day of the weekend built around shopping small, so some shoppers come looking for the people behind the store, not only the lowest price.

This guide gives you five on-site message ideas for that Saturday, sample copy you can adapt, and how to time them in Atomato, with scheduling on Scale and Enterprise+ or a quick manual switch on Starter (Free).

By the end you will have a short plan for your feed, an optional NotiPop reminder and a list of what to set up in Shopify yourself.

Why Saturday deserves its own messages

If you run one long sale from Friday to Monday, the same banner can stay up for four days. That works for the discount, but it misses a reason some shoppers look for small brands on Saturday: they want to buy from a small business on purpose. A message that says who you are, who makes the products and what a purchase supports gives those shoppers something your Black Friday banner cannot.

Saturday is also a good day to thank your existing customers and point gift shoppers at products that sum up your brand. None of this needs a bigger discount.

Five on-site ideas for Small Business Saturday

Each idea below is one message in your NotiFeed, the feed shoppers open from the bell on your store. On Scale and Enterprise+ one NotiFeed campaign can hold up to six messages, so all five can sit in a single Saturday campaign. On Starter (Free) a campaign holds one message, so pick the one that matters most.

The NotiFeed Setup tab. Each chip is one message in the campaign.
  1. A founder note. Two sentences about who runs the store and why. Link it to your About page or a short story post.
  2. A maker spotlight. Name the person, workshop or farm behind a product line, and link straight to that collection.
  3. A shop small gift edit. A collection of the products that best represent your brand, with a clear price range for gift shoppers.
  4. A thank-you to regulars. A message only signed-in customers see, with early access or a small extra if you choose to offer one.
  5. A practical note. Your holiday shipping cutoff, gift wrap options or how returns work over the holidays, so shoppers can buy with confidence.

Sample copy for two of them, within the editor's limits of 120 characters for a title and 200 for a description:

Title: We're a team of four in Portland

Description: Every candle is poured by hand in our studio. Thank you for shopping small this Saturday.

Button: Meet the team

Title: The shop small gift edit

Description: Our most loved pieces, all under $40, ready to wrap.

Button: Shop the edit

Thank your regulars with a segment

The thank-you message works best when only existing customers see it. On any plan, switch on Customer Segments on that message and choose Customers (signed in), or choose Specific customer segments and pick a Shopify segment, such as customers who have ordered before. Build the segment in Shopify under Customers > Segments first. See Show a campaign to specific customers or segments.

One store, two shoppers. Customer Segments decides who sees each message.

Keep in mind that segments only match shoppers who are signed in. A loyal customer who browses without signing in sees only the messages set to All customers or Visitors (not signed in), so make sure your general messages still make sense on their own.

Time it to Saturday only

On Scale and Enterprise+, give the Saturday campaign a start and end on its Schedule tab, for example 12:00 AM on Saturday 28 November to 12:00 AM on Sunday 29 November. It waits as Scheduled, goes live at the start time and moves to Completed at the end, without you opening Atomato. Times follow your computer's time zone, not your store's, so convert them first if the two differ. See Schedule a campaign to start and end.

The Schedule tab. Times are picked by the hour, and the start must be in the future.

On Starter (Free), scheduling is locked and only one NotiFeed campaign can be active at a time. Write the Saturday copy a few days early somewhere you can paste it from. On Saturday morning, pause your Friday campaign, then create the Saturday campaign, preview it and save it as Active. Atomato won't save a second NotiFeed campaign while one is active, even as a draft.

A worked example: one weekend of campaigns

A small candle brand on Scale plans the weekend like this.

  • Friday: a Black Friday campaign with two messages, the sitewide offer and the shipping cutoff. It ends at midnight.
  • Saturday: a Small Business Saturday campaign with the founder note, the gift edit, the weekend offer and a thank-you message limited to signed-in customers. A separate NotiPop campaign, built from the Sitewide Promo template with the same Saturday schedule, points to the gift edit, with a Page URL rule so it only shows on collection pages.
  • Sunday: a campaign with the weekend offer and shipping cutoff, ending at 12:00 AM Monday.
  • Monday: a Cyber Monday campaign that starts at midnight with the final offer.

Before, the store had one banner reading "Black Friday weekend: 20% off everything" from Friday to Monday. After, Saturday's feed tells shoppers who makes the candles and where to find gifts. Because the sale runs all weekend, the Saturday campaign also keeps a short offer message, so the discount stays in the feed on Saturday. Each campaign starts and ends on its own and has its own results on its campaign page.

If you want the whole store to look different for the day, Theme Launcher can publish a prepared theme at the start time and switch back at the end. It is on every plan. Turn on the Atomato app embed in that theme first, because embeds are saved per theme and Theme Launcher doesn't check them.

Measuring what Saturday added

Point every button at a product, collection or search page where you can. A click on those links counts products added to cart within 6 hours, compared with 3 hours for a NotiFeed or NotiPop click to any other store page. The checkout then has to happen in the same browser within 30 days. Links to other websites, such as a story on Instagram, are not counted. See How Atomato attributes revenue to your campaigns.

The founder note links to your About page rather than a product, so it can only earn assisted revenue and is better judged on clicks. Its job is to make the store feel human. Judge the gift edit and the thank-you message on revenue.

What this does not do

  • Atomato doesn't create discount codes for NotiFeed or NotiPop messages. If Saturday has an offer, set it up in Shopify and use your own code in the message.
  • Messages don't show on Shopify checkout, the thank-you page or POS, so in-store Small Business Saturday sales need their own signage.
  • There is no targeting by location, so you can't show a local pickup message only to nearby shoppers. Say who it applies to in the text instead.
  • A schedule belongs to the whole campaign, not to each message. Put messages that need different times in separate campaigns.
  • Atomato doesn't send emails or texts. Your email and SMS platform still handles the Saturday send; the feed covers shoppers who are already on your site.

Next step

Pick two of the five ideas, write the copy this week and preview the campaign on desktop and mobile. If you are planning the rest of the weekend too, the Black Friday Cyber Monday guide and our post on planning BFCM on-site messages cover Friday and Monday.
