How Atomato attributes revenue to your campaigns

What starts the add-to-cart window, which orders and items count, and how direct, assisted and abandoned value are worked out.

Atomato attributes revenue to a message when a shopper clicks it, adds products to cart within a set window, and later checks out in the same browser. Attribution runs on every plan, including Free.

What starts revenue tracking

A message that is only seen earns no revenue credit. These clicks start tracking:

  • A NotiFeed message or its button, or a NotiPop button, with a Button link to a page on your store.
  • A product button in a NotiSell message, whether it opens the product page or adds to cart.

Links to other websites, buttons that use Custom JavaScript (optional) and messages with no link count as clicks in engagement numbers but don't start tracking. A NotiPop only shows its button when Button text is filled in. Pages, products and collections picked in Button link always point to your store. See Create your first campaign.

NotiEmail is measured through its discount codes instead. See Track NotiEmail signups and discount code redemptions.

The add-to-cart window

A click opens a window for adding products to cart:

  • 6 hours for a product, collection or search page, and for a NotiSell product button.
  • 3 hours for a NotiFeed or NotiPop click to any other page on your store, such as the home page.

Products added inside the window are recorded against the clicked message. Products added later, and items with a zero price, are not. There is no setting to change the window.

Which orders and items count

The shopper then has to check out in the same browser within 30 days of the click. Atomato matches the order to the products added in the window:

  • Only those products count, in the same variant and up to the quantity added. Other items and shipping are left out.
  • Revenue is the checkout price of the matched items.
  • Each order line is credited once, and only the first completed checkout after the click is matched.
  • Revenue shows on the date of the click, not the order.

Direct and assisted revenue

  • Direct revenue: the matched item is the product the message linked to, or the NotiSell product the shopper clicked or added.
  • Assisted revenue: any other matched item added in the same window.

A message that links anywhere other than a product page earns assisted revenue only. The NotiFeed and NotiPop tabs of the Analytics page show both figures in the How revenue is counted strip once there is revenue to split.

When a shopper clicks more than one message

A browser holds one click at a time. A click that starts tracking on a different message, in the same campaign or another one, replaces the earlier click and opens its own window. Clicking the same message again keeps the first click and its window.

If products were added after the latest click, the checkout is matched to those, and products added after the earlier click stay with that message as abandoned value.

Confirmed revenue, abandoned value and recovery rate

Once products are added after a click, the summary page of a NotiFeed, NotiPop or NotiSell campaign shows a Revenue attribution summary card:

  • Confirmed revenue: matched items in completed checkouts.
  • Abandoned value: products added during the window with no matched checkout, once 6 hours have passed since the click. It can still become confirmed if the shopper checks out in that browser within 30 days.
  • Recovery rate: confirmed revenue divided by confirmed plus abandoned value.

Until 6 hours have passed, products added without a checkout are left out of all three. On the Analytics page, the Summary tab shows store-wide totals as Atomato revenue, Abandoned cart value and Recovery rate.

What attributed revenue does and does not tell you

Attributed means an order followed a click under these rules. It does not prove a message caused the sale, and your email platform or Shopify's marketing reports may credit the same order under their own rules. See Why Atomato numbers differ from Shopify and other tools.

Compare attributed revenue with Total store revenue for the same dates, as a share of your sales rather than extra sales. See Read the Analytics page in Atomato.
