Why Atomato numbers differ from Shopify and other tools
Each tool counts orders its own way. Here is why Atomato's totals differ from Shopify and your email platform.
Atomato, Shopify and your email platform count sales by different rules, so their totals differ. Atomato's click-attributed revenue only counts products added to cart within a window after a click on an Atomato message, dated by the click and matched in the same browser.
Each tool uses its own rules
Atomato attributes revenue when a shopper clicks a NotiFeed, NotiPop or NotiSell message, adds products to cart within the window, and checks out later in the same browser. See How Atomato attributes revenue to your campaigns.
Email platforms and Shopify's marketing reports use their own rules. Atomato works alongside your popup, email and SMS tools, so one order can be attributed in several of them. Don't add their totals together.
Click revenue counts items, not whole orders
Atomato revenue is the price paid for products added to cart during the window, without shipping or the rest of the order. Two totals work differently:
- Revenue from codes on the NotiEmail tab is the full total of orders that used a unique NotiEmail discount code. See Track NotiEmail signups and discount code redemptions.
-
Orders on the NotiSell tab counts orders with a product added to cart from inside a NotiSell message, which Atomato tags
notisellin Shopify. See Track NotiSell orders, revenue and basket impact.
Atomato doesn't subtract later refunds, returns or cancellations, while Shopify's sales reports subtract returns.
Dates, time zones and currency
- Click-attributed revenue is dated by the click: a Monday click and a Tuesday order show on Monday in Atomato and Tuesday in Shopify. Recent days can grow as shoppers check out later.
- NotiSell orders are dated by the order. NotiEmail code results only include codes issued in the selected dates, and Revenue from codes only orders placed in those dates.
- Atomato's days run on UTC, while Shopify's reports use your store's time zone.
- Click-attributed totals show one currency: your store currency if it has attributed sales in those dates, otherwise the largest. Other currencies aren't converted or added in. Shopify reports every sale in your store currency.
With sales in several currencies, hover over + other currencies next to Confirmed revenue or Abandoned value on a campaign summary to see them.
Orders Atomato can't follow
Atomato keeps the click in the shopper's browser. Click revenue misses an order when:
- The shopper checks out on another device or browser, or clears their browsing data first.
- Checkout comes more than 30 days after the click.
- Products were added after the window closed: 6 hours after a click to a product, collection or search page, or 3 hours after a NotiFeed or NotiPop click to another store page. Links to other websites, messages with no link and custom-code buttons open no window.
- The shopper then clicked a different campaign, so products added after the earlier click may not count.
- The shopper re-clicked the same campaign within 30 days, with no checkout in between. The window still runs from the first click.
- It's a repeat order. Only the first completed checkout after a click is matched.
- It happened in your theme editor or Atomato's preview.
Totals that mix sources
- Orders in Store and Atomato results adds click-matched orders and redeemed NotiEmail codes, so an order with both counts twice.
- Average order value there is Atomato revenue per click-matched order, so it reflects matched products only.
- With a NotiSell campaign, Revenue on the home page Performance card, and each NotiSell campaign's Revenue on the Campaigns page, also include the full value of orders tagged
notisell. - Total store revenue is your store's total sales from Shopify for the same dates.
Screens also open on different dates: the home page Performance card shows the last 7 days, Analytics opens on Last 14 days, a campaign summary starts on its creation date, and the Revenue column on the Campaigns page covers all time.
Compare fairly
- Pick the same dates in each tool, allowing for UTC days at the edges.
- Read Atomato revenue as a share of Total store revenue, not as extra sales.
- Watch trends over weeks, not single days. Engagement numbers update every 6 hours (UTC). See When Atomato analytics update, and how to refresh them.
