Translate your campaigns into other languages

Give each campaign its own text in every language your store sells in, and see what shoppers get when a field isn't translated.

On Scale and Enterprise+, you can give each NotiFeed, NotiPop, NotiSell and NotiEmail campaign its own text in every language your Shopify store sells in. Shoppers see the version for the language they are browsing in, and your original text in any field you haven't translated.

Before you start

  • Translations are on Scale, Enterprise+ and older paid plans. On Free (the app also calls it Starter), the page shows Translations is not on your plan. See Change your plan.
  • Add and publish the language in Shopify, under Settings > Languages. If your store has no other language yet, Atomato shows an Add new language button that opens those settings.

Open a campaign's translations

From Settings. In Atomato, click Settings, then the Translations tab. Under Campaign type, choose NotiFeed, NotiPop, NotiSell or NotiEmail, then pick the campaign under Select campaign. Check the language beside it, which starts on one of your other languages. Your default language is greyed out.

Settings > Translations. Languages come from your Shopify store's published languages.

From the campaign editor. Click Translate at the top of a campaign to open it on the Translations tab. The button shows when your store has more than one language, and stays greyed out until you have saved the campaign once.

The status button in the editor switches between Active and Draft. The change is kept when you save.

Add your translated text

Your original text is on the left under Reference. You type on the right, under the language name. A campaign with several messages has one block per message, headed Notification 1, Notification 2 and so on.

  • The button fields are labelled Cta Text and Cta Link. The link can point to a page in the shopper's language, such as a translated collection.
  • In descriptions, Generate text writes new text from keywords rather than translating your original, so read the result before you click Keep. See Write campaign text with AI.
  • For a different image, click Select from Files. You can't upload here, so add the image to your Shopify Files first.
  • For a different emoji, click the Icon field (Feed Emoji and similar on NotiEmail) and pick one.
  • Leave a field empty to show your original text. To remove a saved translation, clear the field and save. The bin icon clears an image or emoji.

Click Save in the save bar or at the bottom of the page, or Discard to undo. Then check your storefront to confirm the changes.

Translate each field beside the original, then Save.

What you can translate

  • NotiFeed and NotiPop: title, description, image, emoji, button text and button link.
  • NotiSell: title, description and the Add to cart button text.
  • NotiEmail: the title, description, image and emoji of each step, including SMS, plus placeholders, button text and disclosure text. Disclosure text is labelled Email Consent Line and Sms Consent Line here, and holds up to 200 characters on this page. Question answer choices aren't on this page, so they stay in your original text.

What shoppers see

Each shopper sees the language they are browsing your store in, field by field: if you translate a title but not its button, the button shows in your original language. Translate every field in a message so shoppers don't see two languages at once.

Shoppers on your French pages see the French text. Anything left untranslated shows the original.
  • The Back control on an opened message comes translated for many languages, such as French, German and Japanese. Other languages, and regional codes such as pt-BR or zh-CN, show it in English.
  • Select an option on a dropdown question, and Variant, Subscription and One-time purchase in NotiSell product options, always show in English.
  • NotiSell product names and prices come from Shopify for the shopper's language and country, so translate product names in Shopify. Prices show with the currency symbol of the shopper's cart.
  • On a regional language code such as pt-BR, check that NotiSell products load, and contact the Atomato team if they don't.
  • If you edit a campaign's original text later, update its translations too, because other languages keep the earlier translation until you do. A duplicated campaign starts with no translations.

Check your translations

Saved translations show on your store from the next page load. The Store preview doesn't let you pick a language, so once the campaign is live, switch your storefront to each language and check each message. See also Preview a campaign before it goes live.
