Thanksgiving message to customers: saying thanks on your Shopify store
How to write a sincere Thanksgiving thank-you, show it to the right customers on your Shopify store and end it on time.

Most Thanksgiving advice for small businesses is about cards, emails and texts. Those reach people who already know you. During Thanksgiving week, though, plenty of your customers come back to your store on their own, often to look ahead to Black Friday. That visit is a good moment to say thanks where they already are.
This guide shows you how to write a short thank-you that reads as sincere, how to show it to the customers who have earned it, how to keep it apart from your sale messages, and how to have it start and end on time. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November in 2026, with Black Friday the next day, so there is still time to plan it.
Why say thanks on the store as well
An email lands in an inbox next to dozens of holiday offers. A message on your store meets the shopper while they browse, in your own words and your own design. With NotiFeed, the thank-you sits in a feed that shoppers open from a bell in your store header or a floating bell, and the bell's number tells them there is something new to read.
This works alongside the emails, texts and popup tools you already run. Keep your Thanksgiving email if you send one. The on-site message simply reaches the people who visit, at the moment they visit.
Write a thank-you that is about them
The common advice holds up: a thank-you that any business in any industry could send won't land. Name what the customer actually did for you, and keep the sales pitch out of it. A NotiFeed message has a title of up to 120 characters and a description of up to 200, which is plenty for two honest sentences.
Before and after
Before: Happy Thanksgiving from all of us. We are so grateful for loyal customers like you. Shop our Black Friday deals now.
After: Thank you for keeping our small kitchen busy this year. Every reorder of the Maple Granola paid for a new oven in March, and you're the reason we can bake on Saturdays again.
The second version is specific to the store, mentions something real and asks for nothing.
Three sample messages
- For repeat buyers: "Thank you for coming back. This was our third year, and repeat orders like yours kept us going through the quiet months."
- For subscribers or members: "Thank you for sticking with us all year. Your feedback is why the new refill size exists."
- For everyone: "Thank you for visiting. We're a team of four, and we read every review. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us."
Under Click behavior, choose Open link and leave Call to action off. The message then shows in full and doesn't send the shopper anywhere, which suits a note that isn't selling. You can switch on Call to action later if you want a "Read our year in review" button that links to a page on your store.
Show it to the customers who earned it
Every plan includes Customer Segments, on each message's Setup tab. It can show a message only to shoppers signed in to a customer account, only to those who aren't, to Shopify customer segments or to customers you pick. See Show a campaign to specific customers or segments for every option.
To thank people by what they have bought, build the segment in Shopify first under Customers, then Segments, for example customers with at least one order. Then choose Specific customer segments in Atomato and select it. Two things to keep in mind:
- Segments only match shoppers who are signed in. A loyal customer who browses without signing in counts as a visitor and won't see a segment message.
- Atomato asks Shopify about membership and remembers the answer for a few minutes, so a brand new member may not see the message straight away.
Because of the first point, give signed-out shoppers something too. On Scale and Enterprise+, add the "For everyone" message as a second message set to Visitors (not signed in). On Starter (Free), where a campaign has one message, set the thank-you to All customers instead. Our guide to Shopify customer segments for on-site messages covers more segment ideas.
Keep the thanks and the offer apart
A thank-you followed by "shop now" reads as a sales message. If you are running a Black Friday offer the same week, put it in its own message rather than at the end of your note.
On Scale and Enterprise+, one NotiFeed campaign can hold up to six messages, and each has its own content, audience and targeting. A simple Thanksgiving week campaign could hold:
- The thank-you for your repeat-buyer segment.
- The thank-you for visitors who aren't signed in.
- Your Black Friday offer, for all customers, with its own button.
On Starter (Free), only one NotiFeed campaign can be active, with one message. While one is active, you can't save another, even as a draft. If your Black Friday announcement already uses that slot, pause it on Thanksgiving Day, then build and publish the thank-you, then pause the thank-you and resume the offer the next morning. For how the whole week fits together, see our BFCM on-site planning guide.
Start and end it on time
A thank-you still showing in the second week of December looks forgotten. On Scale and Enterprise+, the campaign's Schedule tab lets you set a start date and time and tick Set end date so it ends on its own. See Schedule a campaign to start and end.
A worked example: start the campaign on Wednesday 25 November at 6:00 pm, so it greets the evening browsers before the holiday, and end it on Saturday 28 November at 9:00 am. Times are in whole hours and use the time zone of the computer you schedule from, not your store's, so convert them first if the two differ. The schedule belongs to the whole campaign, not to each message.
On Starter (Free), the Schedule tab is locked and campaigns run until you pause them. Set yourself a reminder and pause the campaign by hand when the week is over. The same idea runs through our Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday plans: each message has a clear start and a clear end.
What this does not do
- It doesn't send emails or texts. Atomato shows messages on your store, so your Thanksgiving email still goes out from your email platform.
- It doesn't show on Shopify checkout or the thank-you page after an order.
- It can't tell new from returning visitors on its own, or target by location. Use signed-in status and Shopify segments instead.
- It doesn't cap how often a shopper sees a message. The note stays in the feed until the campaign ends or you pause it.
- A thank-you without a button can still record clicks on the card, but those clicks don't lead anywhere, so it won't show attributed revenue. Atomato counts revenue only after a click that takes the shopper to a page on your store. Judge this message by whether it fits your brand, not by its sales.
Next step
On Scale or Enterprise+, write two versions of your thank-you this week: one for customers who have ordered and one for everyone else. On Starter (Free), write one for everyone. Build the Shopify segment if you use one, create the NotiFeed campaign as a draft (on Starter, pause any active NotiFeed campaign first), then preview it signed in and signed out once it is live. NotiFeed and Customer Segments are on every plan, and scheduling comes with Scale. See pricing for what each plan includes.
