Why did Atomato disappear after I changed my theme?

After a theme change, turn the app embed on in the new theme, then reset the bell placement. Also covers Theme Launcher switches.

Atomato usually goes missing after a theme change because the Atomato app embed is switched off in the new theme. Turn the embed on in that theme, then check where the bell sits.

Why a theme change affects Atomato

  • The app embed switch is saved inside each theme. A theme you have just published can have Atomato switched off, even if it was on in your old theme.
  • If your bell sits in the header and you picked a spot for it, that spot points at an element in your old theme's header. If the new header doesn't have it, Atomato tries a built-in spot for many popular themes, then a cart link or the first menu item, so the bell can move or go missing. A snippet pasted into your old theme's code doesn't carry over. A floating bell isn't affected.
  • Your campaigns, styling and custom CSS are saved in Atomato, not in the theme, so you don't need to rebuild anything.

Turn on the app embed in the new theme

Open Atomato. If the home page shows the yellow banner Atomato is not activated, the embed is off in your live theme.

The banner on Atomato's home page while the app embed is off. Activate opens your theme editor.

Click Activate. Your live theme's editor opens in a new tab on App embeds. Switch on Atomato and click Save. The banner clears once Atomato sees the change. For every step, see Turn on the Atomato app embed.

Reset the bell placement

This applies when Where the bell appears is set to Display in header, the only option that shows Choose bell placement.

  1. In Atomato, go to Settings > NotiFeed styling.
  2. Click Choose bell placement. A preview of your live store's home page opens at desktop size. Click the element the bell should sit next to, such as the cart icon.
  3. Click Next: Choose mobile placement, pick the mobile spot, then click Save placement.
  4. Click Save on the settings page. Nothing changes on your store until you do.
Pick the element the bell should sit next to, here the cart icon. The bell goes just before it.

If you used Add using snippet under Advanced placement options, paste the snippet into the new theme's header next to the cart icon, or pick a spot with Choose bell placement instead. The other placement options are in Add the notification bell to your store. If the embed is on and the bell still doesn't appear, see Why isn't the notification bell showing on my store?

If Theme Launcher switched the theme

Theme Launcher publishes your During event theme at the start time. If Enable theme switching once the event has ended. is ticked, it publishes the After event theme at the end time. Setup is covered in Schedule a theme switch with Theme Launcher.

Theme Launcher publishes the event theme at the start time, then switches to the After event theme at the end.

Theme Launcher publishes each theme as it is. It doesn't switch Atomato on for you, and the Atomato is not activated banner only checks your live theme, so it can't warn you ahead of time. Before the event, turn the embed on in every theme the campaign will publish:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Next to the scheduled theme, click Customize.
  3. Click the App embeds icon, switch on Atomato, and click Save.
The theme editor, open on App embeds. Switch Atomato on, then Save.

The placement picker only loads your live store, so reset the bell placement after the switch if the new header is different.

If Atomato can't publish a theme, it emails the addresses turned on in Settings > Email notifications. The campaign's status doesn't tell you whether the publish worked: at the start time it changes to Completed, or to Active if you set an After event theme, even when the publish failed. Check Online Store > Themes to see which theme is live. If the time has passed and your old theme is still live, publish the new theme there yourself, then click Contact support under Help & Support in Atomato to let the team know.

Check your custom CSS

Custom CSS you added under Settings > NotiFeed styling > Custom CSS still loads on the new theme. Rules that point at your old theme's class names may no longer match anything. Update them to the names the new theme uses, then click Save.
