Why can't I save my campaign?

Why Save campaign stays grey or is blocked: the Starter plan limit, Upgrade required, red field messages and NotiEmail platform errors.

Atomato won't save a campaign when nothing has changed, a field fails a check, or your plan doesn't cover what you're saving. The button and the message you see tell you which.

The Save campaign button is greyed out

Save campaign turns on only after you change something. It stays grey on a template or saved campaign you haven't touched, and when you change a field back to how it was.

Starter plan limit reached

On the Free plan (called Starter in the app), you can have one active NotiFeed campaign and one active NotiPop campaign. Saving another campaign of a type that already has an active one opens the Starter plan limit reached window instead. This happens even when saving it as a draft, or editing a paused or draft campaign of that type.

What saving shows on the Free plan while another campaign of the same type is active.

Deleting or upgrading works, and so does pausing the active campaign, because only active campaigns count:

  1. Click Cancel. Your edits stay in the editor, unsaved.
  2. In a second browser tab, open Atomato, click Campaigns in the sidebar, and click the name of the active campaign of that type.
  3. Click Pause campaign and confirm.
  4. Back in the first tab, click Save campaign.
A campaign's summary page, opened from its name in the list. Analytics follow below.

Or click Upgrade: Scale and Enterprise+ have unlimited campaigns. Pause, end, duplicate or delete a campaign covers the other ways to free the slot.

Upgrade required

NotiSell needs Scale or higher, and NotiEmail and NotiSMS need Enterprise+. Saving one of these on a lower plan opens the Upgrade required window. Click Upgrade to open Billing, or Cancel to close it. Atomato plans and pricing lists what each plan includes.

A red message appears on the page

Atomato opens the tab or step with the problem, marks it in red and scrolls to the first message. Messages clear after a few seconds, so click Save campaign to see them again. The most common ones:

  • Campaign name is required or Campaign name can only contain letters, numbers, spaces, parentheses, hyphens and underscores: the name is empty or has other characters, such as &, %, full stops, apostrophes or accented letters.
  • This name is already taken: another campaign in your store, of any type or status, uses this name. Template names, such as Bestseller Spotlight, are only checked when you save, so if a campaign already has one, rename the new campaign or you'll see Campaign name is already taken.
  • Notification title is required, or Feed title is required on NotiEmail: fill in the Title.
  • Required under the image picker: add an image or emoji, or choose None. Under Button text or Button link on NotiFeed or NotiPop: fill them in, or turn off Call to action. On NotiSell, the Button text under Add to cart button can't be empty.
  • Please select at least one product on NotiSell: click Fetch products, or choose Manual under Method and add products with Browse.
  • Date must be in future under Start date: a new campaign must start at least two minutes from now, so pick a later time.

NotiEmail asks you to connect a platform or choose a list

Every Email Opt-in and SMS Opt-in step needs a connected platform before the campaign saves, and Klaviyo and Mailchimp also need an email list or SMS audience. Otherwise you'll see Connect an email platform before publishing this campaign., Choose an email list before publishing this campaign. or the matching SMS message.

What stops a NotiEmail campaign from saving: no list chosen.

Choose them in that step. If the platform won't connect or your list is missing, see Fix integration connection errors. If Add discount is on in the Success step, also pick a coupon, or you'll see Select a Shopify coupon before publishing this campaign.

The save fails with an error

If a message says something went wrong, the save didn't finish. Before you try again, check Campaigns: a new campaign can appear there even when this error shows. If it keeps happening, contact the Atomato team from Help & Support in the sidebar.

A successful save shows Campaign created successfully or Campaign updated successfully. If shoppers still can't see the campaign, see Why isn't my campaign showing on my store?
