What shopper data does Atomato collect?

What Atomato records about shoppers, what stays in their browser, how privacy choices apply and how data is deleted.

Atomato records how shoppers interact with your campaigns and links orders to campaign clicks for revenue reporting. Signup emails and phone numbers go to your connected email or SMS platform, and a few small notes are kept in the shopper's browser storage.

Campaign activity

Atomato records impressions, clicks, hovers, dismissals, add to carts and signups, each with the campaign, device, whether the shopper was signed in and, for NotiSell, product IDs, but no customer ID, name, email or phone number.

Every 6 hours, these are rolled into daily totals and cleared. On the Free plan, only impressions, clicks and revenue are recorded.

What Atomato counts in the feed. Each message listed when the feed opens is an impression.

Revenue reporting

When a shopper clicks a NotiFeed, NotiPop or NotiSell message, then adds to cart within the attribution window, Atomato records that add to cart and any later order of those products: a random session ID, click time, checkout and order IDs, products, quantities, revenue, currency and device, plus signed-in shoppers' customer IDs.

Emails and phone numbers from signups

NotiEmail and NotiSMS send the email address or phone number, a first name if Collect first name is on, and any Question answers to your connected platform. Atomato's reports only count signups.

Before you publish a NotiEmail signup, rewrite the default Disclosure Language in each Email Opt-in and SMS Opt-in step. It starts with placeholders such as [brand name] and [insert privacy policy link], so write wording that fits each channel and your local rules.

The default disclosure text. Replace the two highlighted placeholders with your brand and privacy policy link.

What stays in the shopper's browser

  • Which messages they have seen or used, so the bell badge clears, a NotiPop doesn't repeat and repeats count separately. A message counts as seen when the shopper hovers over or touches it, or when a NotiPop is clicked or closes.
  • Signup progress on signups that offer a discount code, including the email or phone number and the code shown, for up to 30 days.
  • A revenue session linking a click to a later order, for up to 30 days after the click.
  • NotiSell product details, for 5 minutes.

Consent and Shopify's privacy settings

Campaign activity and click-based revenue reach Atomato through its web pixel, which Shopify runs only when a shopper's privacy choices allow it. When they don't, campaigns still show and that shopper's activity isn't recorded, but items added from NotiSell still carry a NotiSell marker, so those orders are still tagged and counted. Theme editor visits aren't recorded either. See how Atomato works with Shopify's customer privacy settings.

Personalization and targeting

Atomato fills {customer.name} and {customer.last_name} with a signed-in shopper's first and last name. For Specific customer segments, it checks the shopper's segments and caches the answer in memory for 3 minutes. For SKIO Integration rules, it stores each signed-in shopper's SKIO subscription summary, such as renewal date and loyalty points.

Data requests and deletion

Shopify passes your customers' data and erasure requests on to Atomato, and asks it to erase your store's data after you uninstall. What each request covers, and what stays behind, is in what happens when a customer asks Shopify for their data or to be erased and what happens to your data when you uninstall Atomato.
