Grow your email and SMS list with on-site signups
Signup ideas, step order and discount code choices for collecting emails and phone numbers in the feed.
To grow your list with Atomato, run a NotiEmail or NotiSMS signup in your store's notification feed, and each contact goes to your email or SMS platform. Below are ideas and the choices that decide who joins.
For each setting, see Collect email and SMS signups in the feed.
Pick a reason to sign up
Each template under Grow my email & SMS list in Create campaign starts from a reason to join:
- An offer: First Order Discount, SMS Discount Signup, Text Me the Code.
- Product interest: Back-in-Stock Signup, New Drop Alert, Product Drop Text Alert, VIP List Signup.
- A question first: Find Your Fit Quiz, What Are You Shopping For?, Preference Signup.
- Updates: Newsletter Signup, Order Reminder SMS.
Atomato shows the code on the Success step and doesn't send texts itself. If you want the code sent by text too, such as with SMS Discount Signup or Text Me the Code, add it to a welcome text in your SMS platform. VIP List Signup starts with a Cart value rule, so remove it, since a signup with a cart rule doesn't show.
Put the steps in the right order
Atomato sends the contact to your platform only as the shopper moves on to Success. So:
- Put the question first, as the question templates do. It can't be skipped, so a shopper who stops at a question placed after the email step never joins.
- Put email before SMS.
- With both steps, set Close button action to Skip on the SMS step and keep the email step on Close. Otherwise, a shopper who taps No thanks on the SMS step returns to the feed, and their email is never sent.
As the Triquetra case study puts it: "Capture takes email first and SMS as a second step, so everyone who gave a phone number also gave an email."
Ask one useful question
Each signup has one Question step, so ask something you will act on, such as what the shopper wants. The answer reaches your platform with the contact, ready to segment on.
Decide on a discount code
A code is optional. Without one, the Success step still confirms the signup, which suits back-in-stock and launch lists.
- Single coupon shows one Shopify code to everyone, and anyone who has it can use it.
- Unique coupons create a single-use code for each subscriber when they sign up, and need an Email step. Each starts with your base code, so give that Shopify discount a total usage limit of 1, as the app recommends.
With unique coupons, keep the email step on Close. A shopper who skips it gets your base code instead, and only one shopper can redeem that.
Write clear consent text
Shoppers see the Disclosure Language under each form. Both fields start with sample text that has placeholders such as [brand name] and [insert privacy policy link]. Rewrite each one for its channel, email or SMS, to match what your platform and local rules require.
Choose who sees the signup
- Switch on Customer Segments and pick Visitors (not signed in) to leave out signed-in customers.
- Back-in-Stock Signup starts with a Page URL rule for every product page, so narrow it to products you expect to restock. Show New Drop Alert on the launch collection.
- Text Me the Code and Order Reminder SMS start with a Device rule set to Mobile.
- A UTM rule greets shoppers on the page a specific campaign link opens.
A signup that depends on a Cart value, Cart items, Cart products or Exit Intent rule doesn't show, so use page, UTM or device rules. See Show a campaign on certain pages, devices or carts.
Where contacts go and which plan you need
Contacts go to the platform you pick on each step: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend or Drip for email, and Klaviyo or Mailchimp for SMS (Mailchimp only when the email step uses it too). Your platform sends the emails and texts, so your welcome flows keep running there. See Which tools does Atomato integrate with?
