How do I improve a campaign that is not getting clicks?

Use the funnel and Performance by message to find what to change, then test one change at a time.

Open the campaign's summary, find the step where shoppers drop off, fix the likeliest cause, then test one change at a time. Atomato has no built-in A/B testing, so you compare versions by running them one after another.

Check where shoppers drop off

Under Campaigns, select the campaign's name to open its Campaign summary. On Scale and Enterprise+, NotiFeed and NotiPop campaigns show a funnel from NotiFeed shown or NotiPop shown to Clicked, Added to cart and Order placed. Each rate compares with the step before, so the biggest drop points to the fix:

  • Few shown: the audience, rules or NotiPop trigger are too narrow, or shoppers aren't opening the bell.
  • Shown, but few clicks: the moment, the audience or the wording is off.
  • Clicks, but few adds to cart: the linked page or offer doesn't match the message.

A Dismissals outnumber clicks banner says the messages may be appearing at the wrong time. For NotiPop, check the Hide after time first: a NotiPop that hides on its own, or disappears because a cart rule stops matching, also counts as a dismissal.

Compare messages fairly

Performance by message ranks messages by revenue per 1,000 impressions, so a message that simply ran longer doesn't win. Read each row with its Links to (Trigger for NotiPop) and Audience. Every column is explained in see how a campaign and each message performed.

Performance by message on a campaign summary. Revenue per 1k shows -- until a message has enough impressions.

Common reasons and fixes

  • No link, or a link to another site. Those clicks can't earn attributed revenue. Link to a product or collection on your store, and see how to write messages shoppers want to click.
  • A NotiPop with Call to action switched off. It has no button, so there is nothing to click.
  • Few impressions on a segment campaign. Customers (signed in), Specific customer segments and Specific customers only reach shoppers signed in to their customer account. See how to show different messages to new, returning and VIP customers.
  • Few NotiFeed impressions. Feed messages count as shown only when a shopper opens the bell, so make it easy to spot under Settings > NotiFeed styling.
  • NotiPop impressions level off. A NotiPop doesn't return in a browser once the shopper has closed, clicked, hovered over or tapped it, or it has hidden itself.
  • The wrong moment. Try another trigger, such as a scroll instead of a delay. See how to choose the right time to show a NotiPop.

Test one change at a time

The in-app help suggests running similar versions at different times:

  1. When the campaign has run for a set time, open its summary, click Pause campaign and confirm.
  2. Under Campaigns, click the arrow next to Edit on its row and choose Duplicate as draft. The copy opens in the editor.
  3. Change one thing only, such as the title, trigger, audience or link. Switch the status at the top from Draft to Active, then click Save campaign.
  4. Run the copy for the same length of time, then compare both summaries over equal date ranges.
A campaign's menu in the list. Duplicate as draft opens the copy in the editor.

Keep other campaigns and offers steady during the test. A NotiPop copy counts as new, so shoppers who closed the original can see it. Pausing the original first also lets these steps work on Free (the app also calls it Starter).

Give it enough data before you decide

Analytics update every 6 hours (UTC). On Scale and Enterprise+, Refresh analytics on the summary asks for an update sooner.

Refresh analytics, before and after a refresh. On the Free plan the button is off.

Small numbers swing a lot. As Atomato's Zibra case study puts it: "NotiPop earned $408.69 from 33 clicks, so that per-click figure rests on a small sample and is not a forecast." Revenue / 1k shows no figure until a message has 1,000 impressions, which makes a sensible minimum for each version. Messages below that are still ranked, so a single order can lift a little-seen message to the top. Different weeks bring different traffic too, so treat a gap as a signal, not proof.

What you can see on your plan

Free records impressions, clicks and attributed revenue, so Performance by message works on every plan. The funnel, its dismissals banner and Refresh analytics need Scale or Enterprise+.
