Why is the signup discount code missing or not working?

What to check when a NotiEmail signup shows {DISCOUNT_CODE}, gives everyone the same code, or shows a code that won't apply at checkout.

If a NotiEmail signup shows {DISCOUNT_CODE} instead of a code, or the code won't apply at checkout, check the Shopify discount behind the campaign. Atomato reads the code from that discount, and Shopify decides whether it applies.

How the code reaches the shopper

The reward is set under Add discount on the campaign's Success step, as described in Collect email and SMS signups in the feed. Single coupon shows everyone the first code on the Shopify discount you picked. Unique coupons gives each shopper a single-use copy of that discount with its own code.

The Success step with a signup reward. Unique coupons need an Email step.

The code appears on the success step once the shopper finishes the last step. Tapping it copies the code and adds it to their cart. If shoppers never reach the success step, the signup itself is failing.

The Success step with a discount. Shoppers click the code to copy it.

If the success step shows {DISCOUNT_CODE}

Atomato couldn't get a code, and tapping the placeholder does nothing. This can happen when:

  • The discount picked in the campaign was deleted from Shopify.
  • With Unique coupons, Atomato couldn't create the shopper's copy.
  • With Unique coupons, someone signs up again through the same campaign and their earlier code can't be found, because it was deleted or you've since changed the discount or its code.
What shoppers see when no code could be read from the Shopify discount.

To fix it:

  1. Open the campaign and click Success under Notification steps.
  2. Check the coupon card under Add discount. Selected discount in place of your discount's name means Atomato can't find it in Shopify. If the name shows and you use Unique coupons, click it to open the discount in Shopify and check it's active and hasn't ended. Copies keep its end date.
  3. To replace the discount, point to Edit on the card and choose Delete. This only removes it from the campaign, not from Shopify.
  4. Search by title in Select coupons, or click Create coupon in Shopify. The list only shows active discounts that use a code.
  5. Click Save campaign.

A browser that already showed the placeholder keeps it for up to 30 days after that signup. Test in a private window with an email address that hasn't signed up through this campaign.

If the code doesn't apply at checkout

Atomato doesn't check the discount's rules, and the check mark after tapping doesn't mean Shopify accepted the code. Click the discount's name on the coupon card to open it in Shopify, and check:

  • It's active and within its start and end dates.
  • The cart meets any minimum purchase amount or quantity.
  • The cart holds eligible products, and the shopper is an eligible customer.
  • Usage limits, including one use per customer, haven't been reached.
  • It can combine with other discounts in the cart.

With Unique coupons, each code is its own Shopify discount, titled Atomato - [CODE]. It starts at signup, copies the original's value, eligible products, minimum purchase, combinations and end date, is open to all customers and can be used once. Later changes to the original don't reach codes already given out, so search Shopify for the shopper's code.

If every shopper gets the same code

Single coupon shows everyone the same code. For a code per shopper, choose Unique coupons. It needs the Email Opt-in step: without it, the editor shows Unique coupons are available only when Email step is enabled. Removing that step switches the campaign to Single coupon and shows Unique coupons require Email step. Switched to Single coupon. To undo it, click Step, choose Add Email Opt-in and pick Unique coupons again.

Unique codes are built from the email address. If the email step's Close button action is Skip, a shopper who skips it gets your original, shared code.

Why a returning shopper sees the same code

The browser remembers a finished signup and its code for 30 days, so reopening the signup goes straight to the success step. With Unique coupons, an email address always gets the same code while the discount and its code stay the same, and once that code has been used, Shopify won't accept it again.

If a private window and a new email address still show {DISCOUNT_CODE} after you've picked an active discount and saved, contact the Atomato team.
